You can walk there (around two miles) or go by bus, taxi or trolley and view the waters. If you take the Skywalk Experience, you’ll see the waters from 110 feet above in a glass-floored observation tower. A little more sedate and for those more interested in the history of this charming town, it’s an easy walk around the main sights even in half a day. Head for Loyalist Plaza, a short stroll from the terminal and its museum, sculptures, market stalls and outdoor restaurants.

The Fundy Trail Parkway has many scenic viewpoints and hiking trails you can do. It culminates at Big Salmon River, where logging was once a huge operation and you can see what remains of an abandoned village from that era. The Carleton Martello Tower is a national historic site in St. John that was built in 1813 and has served numerous military purposes. It was originally built to protect the port against a possible attack from the United States. When visiting the tower during a cruise to St. John, you can tour it with a guide in historical costume and view an exhibition of military life in the 18th century.
